Gatterstown Stud

Gatterstown Stud is now located in Co. Cork having originally being based in Co. Tipperary.

Youngstock thrive on the rich grasslands of Cork and Gatterstown Stud takes advantage of this

to nuture their foals to 3 year olds by supplementing the grassland rearing with hard feed and a

proper worming regime. This simple approach with daily contact with all the animals makes for a happy and contented horse. In Summertime the horses run with beef cattle on the same pastures in order to keep the grass sweet and edible and as yearlings, two year olds and three year olds the horses are brought in to the yard at different stages for handling and lungeing.

 

 

What we do

 

At Gatterstown Stud our primary function is to purchase N.H youngstock more often then not as foals or yearlings. We then rear them on the farm and sell on usually as three year olds to further their career as potential racehorses.

We sell from the farm and at auction at the three year old store sales.

 

Our aim at Gatterstown is to treat each horse as an individual and handle them accordingly. We like to feed as required, handle as required and sell on knowing we did the best possible for the horse.

We like to think a good foundation like this as a young horse would help them as they step into their racing career at a racing yard.

 

Great satisfaction comes from seeing horses we sell going on to a fruitful racing career for someone else. You can then say in hindsight - " I always knew he would make a racehorse someday"!!!!
